A GRAND CELEBRATION THAT MARKS THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF ALPS
For “ The Association of Lyceum Past Students “ a 30th anniversary celebration reflects what ALPS has accomplished
since its foundation date in 1994. To write stories from its past history, would perhaps take volumes and a long time
to complete. Organizing for its members and friends an anniversary celebration that marks its 30 years of existence
enables ALPS to reflect, on what has happened over the past years and what is expected to happen in subsequent years
to build an ALPS legacy. With its limited financial resources and cost cutting measures, the association could not afford
extravagant spending. However, with the vast knowledge and knowhow from many of its council executives, a wise
plan of budgetary spending and at the same time taking it as a challenge, the organizing committee could think and prepare
a very satisfactory commemoration to keep all its members and friends truly happy. ALPS wanted to create a unique theme
by producing and distributing a 30th anniversary keychain token that carries the colorful logo and an inscription which reads:
ALPS – 30 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE, PASSION AND COMMITMENT
The grand celebration dinner has been a wonderful success. The well decorated and specially prepared ballroom of the
prestigious Radisson Golden Sands Resort / Ghajn Tuffieha, has seen a good number of members attending with wives
and friends, who all came to celebrate together, this special occasion in the history of The GHAQDA EX-STUDENTI LICEO.
All guests have been impressed with the high level of organization. For this occasion a special menu was planned in advance
and the vast selection of food that was served has pleased everyone who attended.
Speeches were delivered by ALPS President – George Galea and by the immediate past president George Stagno Navarra.
They both paid homage to the ALPS Founder President Dr. Guido Saliba whose dream continues to live to this day.
Looking at the future, one thinks of new members from a younger generation who will be able to lead ALPS to a greater future
in order to keep alive the name of IL-LICEO that has always been considered as the best secondary school in Malta & Gozo.
With much pleasure, the association thanks its new Secretary General Mark Darmanin. He is doing a fine job and could be
instrumental to attract some new blood of younger years, who will join him and lead the association for many more future years.
