FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
HAPPY SUMMER HOLIDAY….I once heard somebody say that the best six doctors are called “Sunshine” / “Water” / “Air” / “Diet” / “Exercise” / and “Rest”. The best of time to nourish these six doctors can be during the summer holidays. Summer time should therefore be a favourite season because so many wonderful things could be happening. Let us just mention that fruit and vegetables are plentiful during the summer season which is the best time to diet. It goes without saying that summer time is most opportune for that much needed and awaited vacation that we all look forward to each year.
Let us all have a good summer break and get prepared for the autumn and winter seasons. We can rest body and mind and be refreshed to have even more fun within A.L.P.S. Starting with the grand-reunion at the Liceo on the 23rd October 2010, we can together commemorate the fiftieth anniversary with all those Lyceum Past Students who had entered or left the LICEO in the year 1960. A cultural tour towards the beginning of November could possibly be in the pipeline. Then of course we shall all be entering the Christmas Festive Season with the usual grand dinner during the first days of December 2010. These are only some of the important items that come to my mind and which I would like you to note and attend for each event mentioned above. So my dear friends in A.L.P.S., let’s all have a great summer holiday to remember. The Association will be bringing you the latest and the greatest and most interesting events during the coming months. Have a good time dear members and friends.
George Stagno Navarra.
The unfading efforts by A.L.P.S. Choir
In the past weeks the A.L.P.S., choir was actively preparing for the Feast of St. Anne, which was celebrated at The Pwales Chapel on Saturday 10th July. A sizeable congregation turned up to hear mass and listen to a nice homily delivered by spiritual director Fr. William Bartolo. Thank you all who have made the effort to come along and celebrate the feast of “Sant ‘Anna tal-Pwales”. Forthcoming events for the choir shall be private-garden concerts at Old People’s homes namely Casa Antonia in Balzan on the 16th July and at Casa Arkati in Mosta on the 23rd July 2010.
ANOTHER UPDATE OF FUNCTIONS AT PWALES CHAPEL
On the 14th September this year, A.L.P.S. will be celebrating the tenth anniversary from the signing of an agreement with the The St. Paul’s Bay Parish community, for the embellishment and renovating and continued upkeep of the Pwales Chapel.
It is with great satisfaction and pride that the members and friends of The Association of Lyceum Past Students, can look back and admire all the betterments that have been carried out to restore this jewel of a chapel hidden in the Pwales valley. It now brings it to its original splendour as it well deserves. It is exactly the full participation of you members, that gives us the impetus to carry on with the work and enthusiasm so that the Pwales Chapel can maintain its origin and in the best interest of the Maltese community.
DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THE PWALES MASS DURING
THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2010 HAD TO BE CANCELLED this year.

THE A.L.P.S. ANNUAL BAR-B-QUE ON THE 25TH JUNE 2010
On the 25th June this year, we have taken you back to the prestigious five star Corinthia San Gorg Hotel. This years’ B-B-Q was held in the outdoor terrace ‘LA PIAZZA” (underneath the Tower). And, to the lovely musical tunes by David Vella, under a full moon lit night, we have opened the summer season by organising for you sumptuous food to everyone’s delight. The numerable raffle gifts have kept all who attended very attentive during the drawing of winning numbers. Many of the guests have left with a heavy parcel or hamper under the arm. One could firmly describe this years B-B-Q as another great success. The number of participants which this year included members coming from Australia, Canada, U.S.A., England, Germany and even from other destinations, exceeded the two hundred mark.
A special word of thanks goes to the Social Commission Chairman Robbie Ferrante, who together with secretary general Alex Borg, took charge from beginning to end of this event. Of course, the support and assistance from all council members and their wives who got involved and who have assisted in making this summer event another big success for A.L.P.S., merits another word of thanks. Thank you all who have attended and gave your unfading support to The Association of Lyceum Past Students. Every year we try hard to make things nicer and better for you members and friends of A.L.P.S.
LET’S GO TO THE OPERA “ LA TRAVIATA” IN GOZO

ATTRACTING MORE NEW MEMBERS IN A.L.P.S. WITH A CHRISTMAS PRESENT

ANOTHER APPEAL TO ALL LICEO PAST STUDENTS WHO MAY HAVE WRITTEN BOOKS OR OTHER PUBLICATIONS
As already mentioned in a previous issue, The Association of Lyceum Past Students is building up a collection from all LYCEUM past students, who may have at some time in their life written or published books, magazines or any other form of publications. It is our pleasure to mention that there has been a wide response and a good number of books have up-to-date been handed over to us. We are confident that there may still be more who can become interested in participating in this project and hence this second appeal to remind you about it. It would be prestigious and an honour, to have any of your publications, that can be entered with such a collection. Do come forward and hand over for this proposed collection, all material to Secretary General Alex Borg…at Alson Naxxar Road San Gwann.. You can send an e-mail alpsmalta@gmail.com or info@alps.com.mt… (tel: 21 376 387/9988 8579) mentioning the title/s of the book/s that you wish to donate for this cause.
We want to give a chance to a wide number of LICEO past students. We continue to encourage you all who may be interested to come forth with such information for a sizeable presentation to be made to The Lyceum Headmaster at the very earliest. The books that you wrote deserve to belong and be part of the school that was instrumental to us for a sound education and which of course we cherish for always.
