MARCH 2011

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD IN FEBRUARY 2011

The AGM this year was held on Friday the 25th February inside the LICEO boardroom by kind permission of the Headmaster. In the absence of a quorum we had to delay starting the actual meeting by an extra thirty minutes to be in line with the A.L.P.S. statute. The year ended on a positive note with most of the council members from the previous administration who were again contesting and being re-elected to serve for another term. The post for secretary general had remained uncontested. Therefore, the hard working Alex Borg is back to his old seat serving the association to the best of his ability. This year’s council is made up of President, Secretary General, and Treasurer, besides eight other council members…amongst whom, we have two new faces who contested for the very first time and were elected.. We wish to extend a word of thanks to the outgoing council members who have served over the past twelve months on A.L.P.S. council.

Their ongoing commitment could ensure that all we have presented to you was always a success. The enthusiasm never failed to show how much they were committed to The Association of Lyceum Past Students. . As outlined in the short message by the President at the closing of the AGM, the new team now looks ahead with boldness and is adamant at seeing our dynamic association continue on its steady course to more success. We feel confident of your co-operation, as well as your unfailing appreciation to all that we may present to you in the year ahead of us. Let there be a happy council of administration that may work closer with you members and friends for the benefit of us all. As a newly registered NGO our association has already embarked on challenging projects, in the hope that it may someday qualify for co-financing through the EU.

A.L.P.S. is now registered as an NGO

It has become a reality. The Association of Lyceum Past Students is now an NGO with registration No: 500 through competent authorities. This now brings us in line with legislation that had been introduced in the recent past years. We are happy to have reached such level which is all to your benefit dear members.

A TERRIFIC SUCCESS WITH THE FUND RAISING DINNER AT Golden Sands:

This year, Valentine’s Night dinner on the 12th day of February 2011 was organized at the lavish Radisson Blu-Golden Sands Hotel. Thanks to a lot of hard work, it attracted a great number of participants. The dinner itself consisted of 265 guests. Many members and friends of A.L.P.S. availed themselves of the special rates that have been made available to us, by staying overnight inside the comfortable rooms of the five star hotel. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was great and, with the merrymaking by all guests and the drawing of the numerous prizes in raffles that have been held, this event lasted till nearly midnight. We really wanted you to have the best venue and we have indeed managed to present to you what one may term as a fantastic event. Thank you all for helping us to raise funds towards dar tal-Providenza/Siggiewi as well as The Malta Hospice Movement, through a 50 hour bicycle Marathon that is due to be held at the Lyceum later on this month. A word of thanks is merited to those council members and spouses who have helped from before and during this event. It all boils down to teamwork to obtain success. All lady guests have really appreciated the red carnation handed to them before dinner.

THE LYCEUM BICYCLE MARATHON 25TH/26TH & 27TH March 2011

The Lyceum students and other participants will cycle non-stop for fifty hours or more, to help raise funds for Dar Tal-Providenza and The Malta Hospice Movement. The Association of Lyceum Past Students, will be giving a helping hand. Our two council members sitting permanently throughout the year on the Bicycle Marathon Organising Committee will be pleased to see as many of our members and their families who can make it possible to participate and help in this noble fund raising activity.
