DOUBLE RATION OF CULTURAL TOURS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cultural Activities Commission of the Association is
\n laying on not one but TWO extremely interesting cultural tours
\n for June, making up in a way for the lack of one during May.
\n This was understandable to many in view of the several events
\n held to celebrate Malta\u2019s accession to the European
\n Union.<\/p>\n

On Saturday 5th June ALPS members and their spouses, partners
\n and friends are invited to a tour of San Anton Palace and
\n Private Gardens at Attard, by courtesy of President Eddie
\n Fenech Adami. The meeting point will be outside the main gate
\n of the palace at 10.15 for 10.30 a.m. Needless to say, punctuality
\n is of the utmost importance. The tour will be led in English
\n by guide extraordinaire<\/em> and ALPS member Brigadier
\n Claude Gaffiero.<\/p>\n

Following the tour, which itself is free of charge, a light
\n lunch is being organised at Saracino\u2019s Caf\u00e9 in
\n Church Square, Attard, just five minutes\u2019 walk from
\n San Anton Gardens. For just Lm3.50 per person participants
\n can enjoy Bruschetta, three choices of Pasta Buffet and a
\n Dessert. Drinks will be extra at participants\u2019 discretion.<\/p>\n

For obvious reasons bookings can only be accepted until Thursday
\n 3rd June to Secretary-General Alex Borg on telephone\/fax 21
\n 386812.<\/p>\n

On Saturday 19th June the cultural tour will be to the highly-acclaimed
\n CARAVAGGIO \u2013 Una Mostra Impossibile<\/em> at the
\n restored Caraffa Stores on the Cottonera Waterfront, near
\n the Casin\u00f2 di Venezia facing the new yacht marina.
\n The meeting point this time will be outside the Caraffa Stores
\n at 10.15 for 10.30 a.m., and our guide will be the very knowledgeable
\n Fr Marius Zerafa OP. <\/p>\n

The entrance fee will be a special Lm1.25 for ALPS, with
\n 75c for Kartanzjan<\/em> holders.<\/p>\n

After the tour, around 1 p.m., there will be an optional
\n light lunch at the Caraffa Stores Cafeteria, with Maltese
\n Platter and Dessert for Lm3.50 per person (drinks extra).\n <\/p>\n

Booking is open until Thursday 17th June, again with Alex
\n Borg. Cheques for both occasions are to be sent to him at
\n \u201cAlson\u201d, Naxxar Road, San Gwann SGN 08.<\/p>\n

NEEDS SPIRITUAL<\/strong><\/p>\n

As already announced in the April issue of ALPS News, this
\n year\u2019s Day of Spiritual Retreat will be held at Manresa
\n House outside Victoria, Gozo, on Saturday 26th June and will
\n again be led by Mr John Formosa, Secretary-General of the
\n Society for Christian Doctrine (MUSEUM). <\/p>\n

The price for the full day, including breakfast, lunch and
\n dinner, will be Lm9 per person. The seminar starts at 9 a.m.,
\n so only early arrival will guarantee breakfast. There will
\n be Holy Mass in the evening before dinner.<\/p>\n

As attendees of previous occasions will know, space is very
\n limited, so all those wishing to participate please phone
\n Secretary-General Alex Borg on 21 386812 or e-mail on studiomoda@global.net.mt.
\n First come, first served.<\/p>\n

A GROWING WEBSITE<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the relatively short time the ALPS website has been on
\n line we have already had quite a good number of hits. Some
\n members have also contacted old schoolmates overseas with
\n whom they are still in contact and told them about it. We
\n have had several constructive comments and suggestions from
\n both local and overseas sources. Indeed it has been our pleasure
\n to action some of those comments (the rest will be taken in
\n hand as soon as possible), and ALPS members who sent them
\n in will surely have been satisfied to see them implemented.
\n Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?) this is all voluntary
\n work, so everyone must exercise patience while the load is
\n slotted piecemeal into a very busy work schedule.<\/p>\n

The website is now in the early throes of mounting a Picture
\n Gallery, starting with the activities of this 10th anniversary
\n year. Any ALPS member who recognises himself in any picture
\n and would like to have a hard copy of it can e-mail ALPS News
\n Editor Laurence Vella on vellfam@vol.net.mt. In due course
\n we shall keep going back in time, not only with pictures of
\n past activities but also of Press cuttings etc.<\/p>\n

ST ANNE\u2019S CHAPEL REFURBISHED<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members, families and friends who visit St Anne\u2019s Chapel
\n at Pwales Valley for the celebration of St Anne\u2019s feast
\n on Saturday 17th July will be in for some very pleasant surprises.
\n The chapel has been repaved with flagstones by the Government\u2019s
\n Works Division, and Alex Borg\u2019s company Studiomoda of
\n San Gwann has generously donated an amount of pine wood to
\n be made into a brand-new pedestal for the statue of St Anne.<\/p>\n

The new works will be commemorated with the unveiling of
\n a plaque in the chapel as part of the celebration of St Anne\u2019s
\n feast, which as usual is being held in anticipation of its
\n liturgical date so as not to clash with the feast of Our Lady
\n of Sorrows at St Paul\u2019s Bay. Holy Mass will be animated
\n by the Choir of the University of the Third Age, who will
\n later entertain with a selection of lively, popular songs
\n under the baton of Maestro Joe Fenech. Light refreshments
\n will be served to all.<\/p>\n
