The letterheads,<br \/>\n                    designed by Ramon Micallef of Box Design of Ta\u2019 Xbiex,<br \/>\n                    are part of a new set that also includes membership application<br \/>\n                    forms and envelopes overprinted with the ALPS logo and address.<br \/>\n                    It is sincerely hoped that Members and Friends of ALPS will<br \/>\n                    be proud of the modernised enhancement of the Association\u2019s<br \/>\n                    image.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n                    FOCUS ON LYCEUM BICYCLE MARATHON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It can safely be said that the fulcrum of ALPS activities<br \/>\n                    over the past several weeks has been the upcoming Lyceum Bicycle<br \/>\n                    Marathon 2007 \u2013 not just in the organisation of public<br \/>\n                    activities but also, and much more so, in the Council members\u2019<br \/>\n                    discussions and almost-frenetic e-mailing and telephoning.<br \/>\n                    The end \u2013 helping the Marathon Organising Committee<br \/>\n                    to enhance the amount of funds to be eventually turned over<br \/>\n                    to the Dar tal-Providenza of Siggiewi \u2013 justifies all<br \/>\n                    the effort.<\/p>\n<p>Following the highly-successful Cabaret Dinner at the Paradise<br \/>\n                    Bay Resort Hotel at Cirkewwa in January that has already been<br \/>\n                    adequately reported in the February issue of ALPS News, the<br \/>\n                    Council of Administration organised another very successful<br \/>\n                    dinner at the Topaz Aparthotel in Bugibba, which also featured<br \/>\n                    patrons spending not one night but two at the hotel because<br \/>\n                    the dinner was on a Friday. As in the previous event, all<br \/>\n                    proceeds from the dinner \u2013 as well as the very high-yielding<br \/>\n                    raffles \u2013 will go to the Marathon Fund. Add to that<br \/>\n                    the very good sales of tickets for the lottery organised by<br \/>\n                    The Lyceum, and you have the prospect of a princely sum that<br \/>\n                    ALPS President George Stagno Navarra should be officially<br \/>\n                    presenting on stage in the closing hours of the Lyceum Bicycle<br \/>\n                    Marathon 2007.<\/p>\n<p>ALPS paid for advertising in The Times, and with the willing<br \/>\n                    help of Bishop Annetto Depasquale distributed eyecatching<br \/>\n                    fliers to all parishes for putting up in their notice boards<br \/>\n                    in the days leading up to the marathon, urging the faithful<br \/>\n                    to visit The Lyceum with their families, enjoy the activities<br \/>\n                    and, more importantly, help with their donations, even through<br \/>\n                    SMS. The Association also paid for adverts in the church leaflet<br \/>\n                    Jum il-Mulej on the weekends of 10\/11th and 17\/18th March.<\/p>\n<p>Members and Friends of ALPS can make the Association\u2019s<br \/>\n                    final contribution even greater by selling and\/or buying more<br \/>\n                    lottery tickets (with proceeds exclusively to ALPS Secretary-General<br \/>\n                    Alex Borg at \u201cAlson\u201d, Naxxar Road, San Gwann)<br \/>\n                    and by donating top-quality items for sale at the Bazaar or<br \/>\n                    Plant Shop during the marathon. Please contact Membership<br \/>\n                    Commission Chairman Tony Aquilina on 21 373706 or 7937 3706<br \/>\n                    to arrange for pick-up of bulky donations. <\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n                    FOUNDATION DAY CONCERT WITH A DIFFERENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the busy run-up to the Lyceum Bicycle Marathon, part<br \/>\n                    of the ALPS Council of Administration has been working in<br \/>\n                    parallel on the organisation of a grand Foundation Day Concert<br \/>\n                    with a difference \u2013 one whose proceeds will be going<br \/>\n                    to another charity, in keeping with our social, civic and<br \/>\n                    philanthropic calling.<\/p>\n<p>Cultural Activities Commission Chairman Joe Fenech has been<br \/>\n                    working for months to put up a Concert Version of Franz Leh\u00e0r\u2019s<br \/>\n                    famous operetta La Danza delle Libellule. The show will be<br \/>\n                    held at the Salesians Hall in Sliema on 28th April with the<br \/>\n                    participation of soloists Karen Camilleri, Louiselle Pace<br \/>\n                    Gouder, Connie Frances Zerafa, Joseph Aquilina and Joe Huber,<br \/>\n                    all accompanied on the pianoforte by Cynthia Genovese. Also<br \/>\n                    taking part will be the Youth Orchestra of the Societ\u00e0<br \/>\n                    Filarmonica Sliema conducted by Mro James Bernard Agius, the<br \/>\n                    Choir of the University of the Third Age trained by Yolanda<br \/>\n                    Micallef, and CATS Dance Company with the choreography of<br \/>\n                    Mariosa Pavia. Monica Attard and John Dimech will be comp\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Free parking will be made available at St Patrick\u2019s<br \/>\n                    Grounds. All proceeds from the show will go to the Salesian<br \/>\n                    Youth Centre, Sliema. Tickets at Lm2.50 can be booked from<br \/>\n                    Studiomoda at Naxxar Road, San Gwann (telephone 21 386812,<br \/>\n                    e-mail alps@global.net.mt), Joe Fenech on telephone 21 410632,<br \/>\n                    or the Salesians Hall in Sliema. <\/p>\n<p>With all the effort that is going into it, this year\u2019s<br \/>\n                    ALPS Foundation Day Concert should be a night to remember!<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n                    CANADA, HERE WE COME \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the help of ALPS Canada Branch President, former Maltese<br \/>\n                    Consul Milo Vassallo, the long-cherished dream of President<br \/>\n                    George Stagno Navarra \u2013 the much-awaited ALPS Tour of<br \/>\n                    Canada \u2013 has finally been put together and set for 28th<br \/>\n                    August to 18th September, 2007. It promises to be so good<br \/>\n                    that places are being snapped up.<\/p>\n<p>The focal point of the tour will be a Grand Reunion between<br \/>\n                    Lyceum past students from Malta and Canada with a dinner at<br \/>\n                    the exclusive Toronto Club on 31st August: certainly a memorable<br \/>\n                    event for ALPS. The entire trip, painstakingly put together<br \/>\n                    through SMS Travel of Valletta, will include conducted tours<br \/>\n                    of Toronto, Lake Ontario, Niagara, Calgary, the Pacific Coast,<br \/>\n                    Vancouver, British Columbia, a five-day tour of the Rockies<br \/>\n                    and a seven-day cruise in Alaska on the m.v.
