EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is an opportune time of reflection when we can all look
\n back and think about recent achievements by the Association
\n of Lyceum Past Students.<\/p>\n

Since the beginning of 2007 we have managed to organise quite
\n a few events, each of which has proved to be a great success.
\n Suffice it to mention that from two fund-raising dinners that
\n were held at the Paradise Bay Resort Hotel and the Topaz Hotel
\n we raised the handsome sum of Lm900. This amount was added
\n to the funds raised by the Lyceum Bicycle Marathon in aid
\n of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. This year\u2019s event kept most
\n of our council members \u2013 and, I must gratefully add,
\n their respective wives \u2013 very busy helping out during
\n all three days for this very noble cause.<\/p>\n

The generous support of so many Members and Friends of ALPS
\n with the sale of Marathon lottery tickets continued to reap
\n more funds, and the bottom-line figure contributed by ALPS
\n for this year’s Marathon reached the total sum of Lm1,700.
\n It was indeed with great pleasure that I presented, on behalf
\n of all ALPS members, the full cheque that was received with
\n great applause from all present at the closing ceremony on
\n the Sunday night.<\/p>\n

From here on we can all look forward to other important forthcoming
\n events that are more than adequately covered in this issue
\n of ALPS News. It would give all Council of Administration
\n members great satisfaction if you would note these dates for
\n your attendance.<\/p>\n

\n FOUNDATION DAY CONCERT WITH A DIFFERENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next major function for the Association\u2019s members
\n and friends will be the Foundation Day Concert on Saturday
\n 28th April. As already pointed out in past issues of ALPS
\n News, Cultural Commission Chairman Joe Fenech has pulled out
\n all the stops to come up with a concert with a difference.<\/p>\n

The event, to be held at 7.30 p.m. at the Salesian Hall in
\n Howard Street, Sliema, will take the form of a concert version
\n of Franz Leh\u00e0r\u2019s La Danza delle Libellule. Soloists
\n Karen Camilleri, Louiselle Pace Gouder, Connie Frances Zerafa,
\n Joseph Aquilina and Joe Huber will be singing the operetta\u2019s
\n catching tunes, interspersed with a running commentary by
\n comp\u00e8res Monica Attard and John Dimech. Cynthia Genovese
\n will be on the pianoforte while Mro James Bernard Agius will
\n be directing the Youth Orchestra of the Societ\u00e0 Filarmonica
\n Sliema. Also taking part will be the Choir of the University
\n of the Third Age, trained by Yolanda Micallef, and the CATS
\n Dance Company with choreography by Mariosa Pavia.<\/p>\n

All proceeds will go towards the Salesian Youth Centre, Sliema.

\n CULTURAL TOUR OF ZURRIEQ<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members and Friends of ALPS would do well to pencil in the
\n date of Saturday 12th May for a cultural tour of Zurrieq,
\n to be led by Mr Tony Terribile. Current plans pinpoint the
\n Xarolla Windmill, St Catherine\u2019s Parish Church, St James
\n Church, Hal Millieri Chapel and the exterior of the Armoury.
\n The tour will be followed by a light lunch, but fuller details
\n will be carried in the May issue of ALPS News.<\/p>\n


\n SPIRITUAL RETREAT IN GOZO<\/strong><\/p>\n

The now-traditional weekend spiritual retreat at Manresa
\n House in Gozo will be held between Friday 25th and Sunday
\n 27th May. This year\u2019s programme will be led by Fr Henry
\n Formosa SJ with the help of Manresa House Director Fr Anthony
\n Cilia SJ.<\/p>\n

The price for the full weekend on full-board basis will be
\n Lm20 per person. Just for the Saturday it will be Lm5 per
\n person until after lunch or Lm7 per person until after dinner
\n (no accommodation). Since accommodation at Manresa is very
\n limited, bookings will be accepted on first-come-first-served
