M FOR MNARJA, MARVELLOUS<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Thursday 28th June, eve of the feast of Saints Peter and
\n Paul, the Association of Lyceum Past Students notched up another
\n success with the Mnarja BBQ organised on the terrace of the
\n Coastline Hotel, Salina Bay. The very encouraging number of
\n guests attending really enjoyed themselves to the very end,
\n chatting the night away between courses of the excellent buffet
\n dished up by the hotel. It was only when the hotel lights
\n started being gently dimmed, around midnight, that they realised
\n it was time to go home.<\/p>\n

ALPS President George Stagno Navarra said it was truly another
\n event to remember with its very pleasant atmosphere. Special
\n thanks to Social Commission Chairman Alfred G. Formosa for
\n his good work and excellent coordination.<\/p>\n

ST ANNE FEAST WITH SOME DIFFERENCES<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual feast of St Anne at the Pwales Chapel was held
\n on 14th July, with the focal point being Mass celebrated by
\n ALPS Spiritual Director Fr William Bartolo OFM Conv. with
\n his usual well-delivered homily. This year the event was animated
\n by the San Gwann Choir under the direction of Raymond Storace.
\n Joe Fenech joined in to give an impressive solo rendition
\n of Panis Angelicum.<\/p>\n

The event was well attended by members and friends of ALPS,
\n the Pwales community and a good number others, including two
\n families who asked Fr William to present their children to
\n St Anne. The word \u201cbabies\u201d here is being studiously
\n avoided because one of the presentees was a teenager!<\/p>\n

Another welcome feature this year was the donation of a magnificent
\n handmade lace soprapatena from the very capable hands of Mrs
\n Ther\u00e8se Calleja, wife of ALPS Assistant Secretary-General
\n Charles Calleja who has always been his right hand in years
\n of loving care for the chapel.<\/p>\n

It was certainly a very successful first feast under the
\n Pwales Chapel Commission chairmanship of Dr Nazareno Azzopardi,
\n but he would be the first to admit that it would not have
\n happened without the energetic and willing help of several
\n other Council members in the cleaning, decoration, making
\n and distribution of eats and drinks and other services \u2013
\n and, of course, the post-event clean-up!<\/p>\n

GRAND REUNION GETTING CLOSER<\/strong><\/p>\n

The date of the Grand Reunion 2007 has been changed to Friday
\n 12th October in order to ensure the very welcome presence
\n of His Grace Archbishop Paul Cremona, who was a Lyceum schoolboy
\n from October 1956. His attendance has been secured through
\n the very good offices of his close friend, ALPS member Peter
\n Tortell.<\/p>\n

As has already been intimated in ALPS News, it is the special
\n wish of Dar tal-Providenza Director Mgr Lawrence Gatt to meet
\n as many as possible of his former schoolmates who entered
\n The Lyceum with him in October 1947 (that\u2019s all of 60
\n years ago!). Mgr Cremona, Mgr Gatt and ALPS Spiritual Director
\n Fr William Bartolo will concelebrate Mass at The Lyceum before
\n the Grand Reunion, starting at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

Besides former classmates of Mgr Cremona, the other group
\n of special guests will be all those past students who joined
\n or left The Lyceum in 1957, 50 years ago. But of course the
\n Grand Reunion is open to all Lyceum past students of any time,
\n irrespective of ALPS membership or otherwise, and their spouses.<\/p>\n

This issue of ALPS News includes a registration form for
\n the Grand Reunion, which is indispensable for good planning
\n of the event. Please give special attention to the bottom
\n part, whereby you can help us to get in touch with more Lyceum
\n past students.<\/p>\n
